About Julius Kitaka

My biography

I am Julius Kitaka and I was born in 1980 by a polygamous dad. When my mother left my dad’s house, he got another wife who mistreated me and as a child I had to leave home and joined the streets of Kampala. We used to help people in Kampala carrying their laggages for survival. I the evenings we could go around clock tower grounds to play football. We used to sleep in unfinished buildings and old cars in Katwe, Kibuye-Kampala suburbs.

In 1995, the late Apostle Deo Balabyekkubo organized a gospel crusade which lasted for two weeks. One day I was in a group of 7 boys, a police officer who was part of security at the crusade called us and all my friends feared to go near him but I don’t know how I became fearless and went near him. He told me that why don’t you leave that group and get born again because I know you are street kids and I always see you around here. I then asked him how I could do it. He called a lady by the names of aunt Justine who preached to me and I accepted Jesus Christ to be my personal savior.

After the crusade, I was taken to Kibuye Prayer Palace and I started a new life staying at the church.  Apostle Deo Balabyekkubo had a plan of taking us back to school because were many in Nakyessanja village. His plan was to take us back in 1996 but unfortunately he died in a car accident in 1998, may his soul rest in eternal peace. At church, we were counseled and left the bad behaviors we had learned from the streets. I myself, I totally abandoned the devil and turned to Jesus Christ.

I learned how to pray, because every day at 5am, Pr Ssembera could wake us up for early morning prayers. It wasn’t easy to pray for one and a half hours, but as time went on, I got used and I grew spiritually. Many people showed me love which I didn’t experience on the streets of Kampala. Brother Henry gave me clothes and shoes and whenever I had no money, he could give me some. Aunt Justine was of great importance to me. This lady is the one who preached to me and I got born again, so she took me as her own child and whenever she could find me around church she could ask me whether I had taken anything or eaten food. Many believers started trusting me with their properties. I could be sent to the homes of nearby believers to deliver food or anything that could be given to me. I learned how to love because people showed me great love.

  2. Thanks Julius for this. Your blog blesses me. I joined Prayer Palace in December 1994 also through the Clock Tower Crusade. Kindly allow me make a correction in your biography about the year Apostle John Deo Balabyekkubo died. It was in 1995 not 1998. Be blessed.

    1. He died on his way to Jinja where he was heading to burn and burry the Quran. You should note that earlier during the crusade at clock tower, he had stepped on the Quran. He died with 7 other people. The leg he used to step on the Quran was never seen, after his death he was brought to prayer palace with hope he was to ressurect, they prayed but in vain, no one will ever talk about this.
      He was buried.
One of his companions (Ssebudde) as since converted to Islam
